I was raised in the city of Springfield, IL but was fortunate enough to always spend time on a farm chasing critters out in the woods. It wasn't until I was in college at Southern Illinois University that I started hunting, and shot my first goose, duck and turkey. After that, I was hook, line and sinker passionately in love with the wonderful world of hunting and the great outdoors. I think I focused on hunting turkeys, and more specifically Single Season Grand Slams (S.S.G.S.), more than anything else for the first several years because I didn't have to count on anyone else. In fact, ONE is usually a crowd in the turkey woods.
The Grand Slam of Wild Turkeys consists of four different subspecies from four distinctly different regions of the United States. The Osceola is found in the lower two-thirds of Florida, the Eastern ranges from the Atlantic to basically the Mississippi, the Rio Grande is found in the Southwest and the Merriam is in the Northwest. Seasons start in Florida in early March and end up in the North in late May. With most states selling over the counter permits and plenty of state property to hunt, it is time that is the biggest factor for most to try for a S.S.G.S. Still, after 46 Grand Slams, my passion for Turkey hunting hasnít slowed a BIT!!
If I hear a different accent, see a foreign license plate or know of a "friend of a friend," I take full advantage of it. I am quite sincere in what I do, taking advantage of the situation and NEVER the people, property or animals! I have acquired some of the best honey holes, but more importantly PEOPLE who I now consider to be as close as family to me!
I am now Managing 20,000 acres and enjoying South Central Florida with my best buddies Camo and Hunter, my two Tri-colored Springer Spaniels.
SAFE HUNTING AND GOD BLESS!
